Dr. med. Cidem Berger
Dr. Berger has been working with Dr. Reinpold since 2005. As a longtime senior physician on his team at Groß Sand Hospital, she was able to integrate her focus on minimally invasive surgery with hernia surgery. Groß Sand Hospital was certified as the first reference center for hernia surgery in its time – a sign of the outstanding quality in this specialization.
Together with Dr. Reinpold and colleagues, Dr. Berger has developed the MILOS / EMILOS procedure. E/MILOS is the first technique that allows minimally invasive synthetic mesh implantation outside the abdominal cavity for almost all abdominal wall and incisional hernias. By avoiding large incisions and synthetic implants in the abdominal cavity, complications occur much less frequently than with conventional procedures. With a considerable number of surgeries and scientific publications, Dr. Berger has helped to establish this procedure worldwide.
In addition, Dr. Berger has exceptional experience using Botox to preoperatively treat giant abdominal wall hernias. She has significantly enriched this treatment approach with her scientific contributions at numerous professional congresses. Dr. Berger is actively involved in the European Hernia Society (EHS) guideline group. She is currently working with leading hernia surgeons from across Europe to develop guidelines for the treatment of incisional hernias.
